Abstract

The author begins with a premise that “escuelas normales”, represented a paradigm in chilean education an as such, exerted a specific and fundamental influence -through classroom practice- over the years of the developing country since their creation in 1842. Therefore, this article presents conclusions in advance of study about the influence of such paradigm in the Andean community in the province of Iquique- Chile. It specifically analizes the teaching practice of 30 teachers “normalistas” previous to the educational reform of december, 1965 in the pre-Andean (precordillera) and highplains area (altiplano) of this province. The 30 interviews of teachers “normalistas” were carried out though research projects Fondecyt 1960090 and DI-05 of the Universidad Arturo Prat. The analysis of those interviews values the “normalista” teacher’s works by recognizing his contributionsand making both errors and shortcomings evident.
