Abstract

The article addresses gender violence in relation to the coercion of women to abort. Based on interviews conducted for an interdisciplinary research on abortion and religiosity (2015-2018), it considers two subordination relationships that expropriate women from the abortion decision. Firstly, it identifies the ways in which hegemonic masculinity becomes violence and imposition on women body. Secondly, the situation of women whose abortion was decided, and even implemented, by family members, in particular by the mother. Finally, we conclude that the outlawing of abortion not only deepens the existing class inequalities, since it create a clandestine situation, but also deprive women from their own decision incrementing gender violence and deepening tutelage relations.
